Our newest generation not only meets the highest requirements in the industry today, but is also optimally suitable for analogue and digital, as well as for ultra-high-power hearing aids. Our zinc - air batteries are designed for high currents and are valued in particular for their extra - long operating life.

How our Zinc - Air Batteries Work

Oxygen is the energy source for our zinc - air batteries.  Oxygen from the ambient air reacts with the zinc in the interior of the battery and generates a current.  In its original packaging, the battery is sealed by an adhesive strap that protects it against environmental factors.  Thus very little oxygen is present in the battery.  The voltage is reduced and the battery remains inactive.  After removing the adhesive strap, oxygen gets into the battery and at this state the zinc-air batteries can only be stored for a limited time.  Thus they should be installed for use as soon as possible once the adhesive strap is removed.

Storage

Ideally the zinc - air batteries should be stored at room temperature in their original packaging.  If stored in a very dry climate, a moist climate, in direct exposure to sunlight or in a cold location (e.g. in the refrigerator) this can reduce the operating life of the battery considerably.  In addition, the batteries must not come into contact with metal articles, such as coins or keys, since these could cause a short-circuit.

Voltage

An activated zinc - air battery not under load can generate a voltage of more than 1.45 V, and the operating voltage is slightly lower.  If the voltage in a digital hearing aid drops below 1.1 V, then an alarm will sound or the device will switch off automatically. In zinc – air batteries the voltage remains constant during the entire operating life, and the charge state cannot be determined by measurement of the voltage.  Therefore, conventional battery testers cannot be used for this.

Long Operating Life

Renata batteries are characterized by offering a wide range of applications and their long operating life.  The operating life of a zinc - air battery however, depends on different factors, for example:  the type of hearing aid, the selected amplification, the ambient noise level and climatic conditions, and finally the temperature or humidity.
