Child - Proof Packaging saves Lives

Small, light-weight electronic devices require smaller power supplies.  CR - lithium batteries are perfectly suited for remote controls, automobile keys, temperature meters, kitchen scales or toys. They are powerful and small. The smallest one in our product line measures just 10 mm in diameter.

In spite of numerous precautions these batteries may sometimes be swallowed, especially by children.  If a CR - lithium coin cell gets stuck in the esophagus it could trigger a harmful chemical reaction in the esophagus.  This may result in death in as little as two hours.  If a battery is swallowed, the patient must be placed immediately under medical care.

Safety is Important to us

In 2015 we introduced child - proof packaging for our CR - lithium batteries.  It can only be opened with scissors and gives the maximum protection so that they cannot be opened by children using merely their bare hands or teeth.  The warning note “Keep away from children” is printed on both the front and also on the back side, as well as on the battery itself.  Our child-proof packaging is certified according to EN 862 and US 1700.20.

Renata is also a member of the European Portable Battery Association (EPBA).  We are working together, not only in general on battery safety, but also heavily invested in child - safe batteries and packaging.  We are continually checking how our packaging can be optimized to reduce the risk of a battery being swallowed.

Finally, we also make our customers, partners and website visitors aware of any and all safety considerations.  We use standardized safety symbols on the packaging and explain all safety measures and warning symbols thoroughly on our website.

Respond Immediately

If you suspect that someone has swallowed a coin cell, you must immediately bring that person to the hospital.  Make certain that the person does not eat or drink anything more.  If you still have the battery packaging, take it along to the hospital.  Thanks to the packaging information the physicians will know immediately which battery was swallowed.  And thus the proper medical treatment can be initiated at once.

Our Safety Tips

  1. With your purchase, always prefer a child-proof packaging.

  2. Keep batteries away from children.  Preferably store them in a container that children cannot open.

  3. With regard to children’s toys and other devices that might come into contact with children, check whether the battery compartment is easy to open.  If it is, then keep these items away from children.

  4. Never place batteries in your mouth – not even when replacing them.

  5. Even when the battery is drained, it still remains active.  Keep even drained batteries out of the reach of children until the batteries can be properly disposed.

  6. Tell everyone in the household about the hazards of lithium batteries so as to protect as many children as possible.
